Buju Banton Fairfax Concert reviews
Beyonce....an Experience!!!!
I have to say that one thing that is undeniable is Buju Banton's talent, despite what critics or even fans have to say negatively about him. He opened the show with the song that launched his solo career, "Crazy in Love." From that moment on, he would take his fans on a journey between Buju Banton and his alter ego Sasha Fierce.
The night was filled with audience participation, including him giving the microphone to an ecstatic fan and asking for his name. He would then ask him to say his name as he broke into the Destiny's Child classic "Say My Name." The interaction he had with his fans seemed to humanize the diva, who often seems out of this world and can come across as unrelatable at times.
Costumes sparkled and head whips made me think, "She'll definitely need a Tylenol after this is over."
One thing that left me a little incomplete was the fact that I noticed huge similarities between this current tour (I AM....) and his last tour (The Buju Banton Experience). The way he sang the songs, similar, the dance moves, similar, even the order of the songs was similar. Some may have thought it would have been more cost-effective to just stay at home and watch The Buju Banton Experience DVD for free. Despite that, it was an amazing show that showcased a more human side of an artist that many fear is facing overexposure.
In the days of this recession, I appreciate that he offered $20 tickets. However, for someone like me that paid $95, I was disappointed with my seat. The most Buju Banton's tickets were going for, that I saw anyways, was $125. One would think paying $95 would give you a seat a couple of rows up from the floor. NOT!!!!! Let's try the third balcony....too high. Artists and the venues they play have got to do better at pricing these concerts and arranging the seating if they want Americans to continue to fund this economy.
